Had a brief daydream today about what could happen if the marketing and demographic data being hoarded by online companies and silos was leaked and put to use by entities whose main drive is cultural advancement rather than profit.

“Give me a list of American born males between the ages of 12 and 15 so I can mail them a copy of Illuminatus!.”

“Women between the ages of 18-30 with an interest in maps will now receive advertisements for A History of Women in Cartography.”

But, more importantly, imagine the results if the Dadaists got hold of this data:

“Males between 30-45 who buy high end menswear shall each receive 10 pounds of Koala feces and a single plum.”

“Anyone who purchases both gardening supplies and yoga mats will be signed up for a year subscription to both Global Slag¹ and The Croquet Gazette”

Now that’s taking the Culture War to the next level. The more I think about this, the more I want a global conspiracy of culture enthusiasts and hackers. I know from personal experience there’s some overlap, but, get going, y’all.
